su_text

Kanysh Satbayev's legacy is not limited only to engineering and geological sciences. In 1999, his 100th birthday was celebrated at the UNESCO level, but even then it was noticeable that the scale of his personality and ideas remained underestimated. Studying his life and work, we became convinced that Satbayev was not only an outstanding scientist, but also one of the leaders of national thought and spirituality, and made a huge contribution to science, art and culture.

Satbayev's scientific and human biography became part of forming the national spirituality. The traces he left in literature, art, and scientific tradition are deeply ingrained in the cultural memory of the people. His worldview was shaped by the influence of the leaders of Alash, Akhmet Baitursynov and Alikhan Bukeikhanov, and he absorbed a patriotic feeling from early childhood, saturated with the spiritual wealth of his native land.

In recent years, interest in Satbayev's legacy has noticeably increased. New textbooks and scientific research have appeared. Scientific and Educational Center at KazNRTU is also actively engaged in collecting and studying its heritage.

Formation of national spirituality at the beginning of the twentieth century can be conditionally divided into two stages: the period of the Alash figures and the period associated with the name of Kanysh Satbayev. At the first stage, such prominent personalities as Alikhan Bukeikhanov and Akhmet Baitursynov played a leading role; at the second, Kanysh Satbayev became the central figure. Both the Alashordy people, led by Akhmet Baitursynov, and the scientists who united around Satbayev, served their people honestly during the difficult time for the country.

Kanysh Satbayev's life and work became a reference point for future generations. He influenced not only the development of science, but also the national spirituality formation. His work in the fields of art, literature, culture and youth education shows how multifaceted his personality was. Satbayev, as a versatile and talented person, was able to comprehensively analyze any problem and was well aware that a deep knowledge of cultural roots was necessary to strengthen the people’s spiritual foundations.

Kanysh Satbayev's spiritual and scientific heritage should serve as a guide for modern youth. He deeply felt the culture of his people, highly appreciated their spiritual values. His life path, achievements in science and art, contribution to the growth of national spirituality is an invaluable legacy for the Kazakh people.

Kanysh Satbayev not only preserved the spiritual wealth of the country, but also contributed to its further evolvement. He had a significant impact on developing the national culture, literature and art. Today, his spiritual legacy remains important for the younger generation. In the context of globalization, it is spiritual values that become the core that helps not to lose cultural identity and inner stability. SPECIAL CONTRIBUTION
TO THE VICTORY

During the Great Patriotic War, Kanysh Satbayev's talent manifested itself with special force. When he headed Geological Sciences Institute of Kazakhstan, he was well aware of the importance of providing the front with the necessary resources. His work focused on studying and developing metal deposits necessary for the defense industry, including manganese, iron and other critical elements. When Ukraine and Georgia lost their manganese sources, it was Satbayev who proposed to immediately start developing the deposit in Zhezdy. The given decision made it possible to fill the deficit and maintain the stable operation of metallurgical plants in the Urals and Siberia.

Despite the difficult wartime conditions, Satbayev assumed responsibility for organizing the field development. Thanks to his efforts, the production of manganese ore was established in the shortest possible time. By 1943, the construction of the railway line was completed, along which ore began to flow to the factories. Zhezdi manganese played a crucial role in producing armored steel, necessary for tanks. Production of tanks in the Urals not only did not decrease, but, on the contrary, increased - a fact that, according to the memoirs of contemporaries, led Hitler to despair.

Satbayev and his colleagues conducted exploration of other strategically important resources of Kazakhstan. Their work has turned the republic into a powerful industrial arsenal. Thanks to them, new industrial centers have emerged in the country, reliably providing the front. In 1942, Satbayev was awarded the Stalin Prize for his work on the geological study of the Zhezkazgan region. His contribution to the victory of the Soviet troops was very significant.

“MY PEOPLE ARE
TALLER THAN ME...”

In 1947, during the trip of academician Kanysh Satbayev to England as part of the Soviet parliamentarians, former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill asked the Soviet scientist a joking question: "Are all Kazakhs as slender and heroic build as you?" Satbayev, who was very tall, replied without hesitation: "Oh, no, Mr. Churchill, I am the smallest among the Kazakhs, my people are taller than me."
